Although painting is not difficult and the hobbyist does not have to follow any rules, but can let his imagination and creativity run wild, many do not trust the project in the belief that they do not have the talent for it. In this case, another technique is also very suitable. You can transfer pictures, photos, lettering or another motif to stone. In this article we will show you which technology works.
Transfer motif to stone – basic
So that you can transfer a picture or motif well, you should choose stones that have the smoothest possible surface. Otherwise, you can choose the size and shape yourself. Not only pebbles and river stones are suitable for such DIY projects where you transfer an image to stone. Stone slabs can also be used and are just perfect as a gift idea.
You should also clean and dry the stones well before designing. Only in this way can motifs adhere well afterwards. We also recommend a primer and a transparent varnish to seal the picture when it is finished. Mod Podge or other glue for the napkin and decoupage technique is also necessary. You can ask for a suitable glue in the craft store.
Depending on what kind of motif should be transferred to stone, you will of course also need the motifs. These can be pre-purchased items that can be purchased in a craft store for transfer. If you would like to put a photo on the stone again, you should also have a computer and printer.
Simple technique with Mod Podge

After you have cleaned the stones and they have completely dried, you can transfer a motif to stone. First apply the primer and let it dry. You print the cards with a printer mirror-inverted on ordinary printer paper. If you do not have a printer, you can simply have your motifs printed out in a copy shop. Now select any place on the map and place a stone on it (or on any other motif) and trace the outline of the stone thinly with a pencil. Cut out the motif.
Now coat the stone with Mod Podge and place the cut motif or card (image down) on it. Let the glue dry well. Then hold the stone under running water or use a very damp sponge to soften the paper. In doing so, carefully rub the softened paper off the stone and you will find that the motif has transferred to stone. As soon as the stone has dried again, it is best to seal your motif with a varnish and the lucky stone is ready.
Photo transferred from paper to stone
You can transfer a photo to stone in the same way. The photo should not only be printed in reverse. You also have to shrink it on the computer beforehand so that it fits on the stone. You don't necessarily need a special program for this, because you can also do this image editing in a simple Word document. Then again put Mod Podge (you can find an alternative in the craft store) on the prepared pebble, whereupon you can transfer the picture to stone, as in the instructions above.
Incidentally, not only an image or photo can be transferred to stone. You can also try it with a lettering if you want to transfer a motif to stone.
