The wooden figures are now part of the delivery program of every craft shop. With good reason, because they can be designed in many ways with acrylic paints, napkin technique or felting wool. Make and paint autumn garland out of felt
The textile felt is a bit thicker than ordinary felt and is therefore ideal for garlands. It scores with its easy processing, can be cut to the desired shape, glued, sewn and you can also drill holes. In stores you can find sheets of felt in many colors, but you can also paint them with regular fabric colors. For this craft idea you will need felt sheets in the colors lavender, pink, red and yellow. They form a delightful autumn ensemble and can spice up the purist interior in the best possible way. You can ask the children to use the template to cut out the autumn leaves from the felt sheets. Cutting is the perfect leisure activity for children of kindergarten age as it promotes dexterity and fine motor skills. After the children cut out all the motifs they want, pierce the felt details and thread a cord or string through them. Now all that remains is to find a suitable place for the autumn decoration.
Make autumn garland out of wood
The next autumn garland is especially very practical because it is made entirely of wood. The painted wooden figures of pumpkins and autumn leaves are then spiced up with wooden beads. The creativity of the children is required here: Organize an excursion in nature and collect other natural materials as well. You can also decorate the puristic garland with feathers, branches or fresh flowers. In no time at all, you have made a garland that you can reuse for many years.
This is how you can color the wooden beads: thread the wooden beads onto a wooden skewer and paint them with a flat, straight brush. You can use paint colors of your choice. Watercolors and acrylic paints are great for children. The two dry quickly, but the acrylic paints score with good coverage. You can fill the color in a coffee filter.
Use the same brush and color and use it to paint the wooden autumn leaves too. Let the children choose an accent color for the pumpkins. You can of course also buy wooden figures to spice up the garland. Squirrels, hedgehogs, flowers and foxes make the decoration a real eye-catcher.
Wait for the paint to dry completely. Then drill holes in the wooden figures, this will thread the string. Experience and caution are required when using the drill. Because of the high risk of injury, parents should master this task. Never leave the children alone with the drill!
When all the details are painted, you can cut a piece of twine and thread the wooden figures and wooden beads alternately. Then hang the garland on the mantelpiece, on a wall shelf or in another suitable place.
Make autumn garland out of pompoms
Would you like to make an autumn garland with the children, but don’t have any wooden figures at home? No problem, you can simply replace them with pompoms in autumn colors. The process is similar, here the children can determine the colors and the desired order of pompoms and wooden beads.
Make autumn garland out of fabric
Do you have scraps of fabric in autumn colors and want to do something creative with it? Download an autumn leaf template in several sizes and let the children cut large, medium, and small autumn leaves from the scraps of fabric. Collect acorns during a trip in the woods. Lay the three autumn leaves on top of each other and glue or staple them together. Then attach an acorn to it.
Now all that remains is to hang up all the autumn leaves on a piece of string and you have already made creative and inexpensive autumn decorations with the children.
Tinker autumn garland and paint or stamp creatively

For this fall garland, first make the fall leaves out of salt dough
For the salt dough, first mix 1/2 cup of wheat flour with 1/2 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of potato starch in a bowl. Then add 1/2 cup of water and knead the ingredients into a homogeneous mass. Then add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil and roll out the finished dough. Then cut out different autumn shapes with cutters. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the salt dough shapes in it. Bake them at 60 degrees for an hour, opening the oven door wide every 15 minutes. Then increase the temperature to 150 degrees Celsius and bake the salt dough forms for 60 minutes.
Cut a piece of duct tape and stick it diagonally on an autumn leaf made of salt dough. It will be much easier for the children when they paint the decorative figures.
Let the paint dry completely, then carefully remove the tape.
Make a garland of autumn leaves and light it up
You can illuminate a garland of autumn leaves with a string of lights. Glue the LED lamps of the fairy lights to the back of the autumn leaves and the garland is ready. Never leave them unattended as there is a risk of fire.
